3 Guaranteed Interview Questions

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

In every interview you will get these 3 questions fired at you.  Not because they have all read the new book…no – its because the interview is lazy, tired or wants to settle in before getting to the nitty grtty.

Imagine that the interviewer has seen 10 people before you…so you need to stand – yes, but also he wants to get a feeling for you before he covers the detail in your resume or cv.  These are the questions and the reasons why he’s asking:

1) “Before we start – tell me a little bit about yourself?”

- OK so in fact the interview has already started..and he’s already making an assessment of you.  This is your opening pitch.  Rehearse and practise this speak clearly with a strong confident voice.

2) “Give me an overview of your career or cv?”

- Again – practise this…don’t read through it or mumble.  You need to have this speech right.  Prepare what you will say by working backwards from your university or college, and summarise each position and your key achievements in 1 or 2 sentences per position.

3) “Why do you want to work for us?”

You message here is what you think you can gain from the role, and how it can benefit you and excites you.  You want to also state what you bring to the company – but be careful not to overstate this – you know nothing of the inside workings so don’t make any bold claims of what you can change.

thats it for this week

Good luck for your next Job.

Dress The Part

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

This is gonna sound stupid…but you would be amazed at the people I have interviewed who turn up in wacky clothes, black tie and black shirt as if they’re going clubbing or something, never mind jeans, t-shirts and even some who actually wear dirty clothes.

If you want to dress to impress at any interview its really … really simple:

1) Dark grey or Blue suit.

2) Pure white shirt (no strips, spots or anything)

3) Dark blue tie.

4) Polished shoes.  ..and I mean proper shoes not sneakers or trainers.

Just stick to this formula and its a winner guaranteed.  oh and remove earings (if you’re a guy), nose rings and any others.  Don’t worry you can put them in when you start the job – but don’t risk meeting an interview who doesn’t like these things.
